Do you pee often? Maybe you have an unusually weak stream? It can be due to many different things, but early detection of an elevated PSA value gives you a great chance of getting the right care at the right time. Our test gives you answers within 5 minutes. If you have any kind of change or disease in the prostate, the level of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in your blood is increased. This PSA level can be conveniently measured at home with our prostate test. With the Quicktest PSA/prostate self-test, you get an immediate answer as to whether your PSA level is normal or elevated. The test is easily done with a finger prick. Our prostate test indicates positive when the PSA level is 4 ng/mL or higher. Our prostate test is very safe and has been used in healthcare for about 10 years. It is CE marked and with regular use gives you the opportunity to detect any changes in the prostate in good time.

Why should I have a prostate test?

This easy-to-use home prostate test can be performed regularly once a year and provides good opportunities for early detection of any changes in the prostate. Benign prostate problems do not have to be life-threatening, but the symptoms can impair quality of life. In addition, there is a risk that a malignant prostate enlargement exists alongside a benign one. Note that elevated levels do not necessarily mean that you are seriously ill, it can be due to a number of different conditions. Therefore, it is important to see a doctor if you have a positive result. If you have symptoms, it is recommended to see a doctor - regardless of the test result. The doctor’s view

A PSA test measures the amount of prostate-specific antigen in the blood. Healthy men have low amounts of PSA in the blood, but the amount of PSA normally increases as the prostate enlarges with age.

PSA levels increase with prostate cancer, but can also increase with inflammation of the prostate gland. There are also other factors that can temporarily raise PSA levels. Finding and treating prostate cancer early is important because it significantly improves the prognosis.

Today, the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare does not recommend general PSA screening because elevated PSA levels can have causes other than cancer. This can create unnecessary worry, excessive investigation and overtreatment. Many men with elevated PSA levels may need follow-up even though they do not have prostate cancer, and in some cases may be diagnosed with cancer and receive treatment with side effects unnecessarily.

New, more precise tests as alternatives to PSA are under development and could in the future reduce the number of false alarms and unnecessary biopsies, but today PSA is what is available.

Personally, I believe PSA tests are of great value for detecting prostate cancer early and should be encouraged, especially in men between 50 and 75 years of age and in anyone with a family history of prostate cancer. At the same time, it is important to remember and explain that an elevated PSA level can have causes other than cancer that must be ruled out.

Frequently asked questions

How does a PSA test work?
Our PSA test is performed at home with a simple and painless finger prick. The test indicates elevated levels of PSA (prostate-specific antigen). The PSA test is for anyone who wants to check the prostate and monitor PSA levels that may indicate a risk of prostate disease.
When can this test be used?
The Quicktest Prostate / PSA Test can be used at any time of day. For certain conditions and treatments, it is recommended to wait for a period of time to avoid an inaccurate test result. Our recommendations are listed below:
  • Cycling/ergometry 24h
  • Ejaculation 24h
  • Prostate massage 3 days
  • Transrectal ultrasound 3 days
  • Cystoscopy 1 week
  • Prostate biopsy 4-6 weeks
Does a positive result mean that I have prostate cancer?
No. In fact, many prostate conditions can cause elevated PSA levels, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and inflammatory or infectious prostate diseases (e.g. prostatitis). We always recommend seeing a doctor if the result is positive.
Can the result be incorrect?
The result is accurate if the instructions are followed carefully. However, the result may be inaccurate if the test becomes wet before use or if the amount of blood placed in the test cassette is incorrect. The included pipette ensures that the correct blood volume is used.
What should I do if the test is positive?
You should contact a doctor and explain that you have taken a Quicktest Prostate PSA self-test and that the result was positive.
What should I do if the test is negative?
You are most likely free from disease. If you suspect a condition or have symptoms, you should always consult a doctor for further investigation.
