Hb meter for home use

There are several health conditions that affect hemoglobin levels, or that can be detected by finding an imbalance in the body's level of the protein. Checking your hemoglobin has never been easier. With the Quicktest hemoglobin meter, you can easily measure and monitor your blood value (Hb value) at home, without visiting a doctor and long medical queues. The meter is easy to use and delivers fast answers with high reliability. Quicktest hemoglobin meter is a good solution for those of you who want to check your blood values regularly.

How is hemoglobin levels measured?

Hemoglobin is like the blood's oxygen carrier – it ensures that oxygen gets to all the cells in the body so you can feel good and have energy. It is measured in something called grams per liter (g/l), and for men a normal value is between 130 and 170, while for women it is between 120 and 150. If your hemoglobin becomes too low, you can develop anemia, or anemia as it is also called. It can make you tired and lack energy. But if the value becomes too high, the blood becomes thick and the risk of blood clots increases. Quicktest Hb meter is a user-friendly tool for home use that quickly measures the hemoglobin level in the blood. Using a small blood sample from your fingertip, the meter analyzes your blood by reading the intensity and color of the light reflected from the reagent area of the test strip. In just a few seconds, you get an accurate result – all it takes is a single drop of blood! The meter is portable, digital, and can store up to 1000 measurements. The meter can store up to 1000 results and is powered by 3 AAA batteries (1.5 V). The package includes:
  • Quicktest Hemoglobin meter (3x Batteries included)
  • The lancet pen
  • 25 pcs Lancet needles
  • 25 test strips
  • 1 st Kodchip
  • 25 st Pipetter
  • Storage case
  • Manual
Note that Hb refill test strips are sold separately here

The doctor’s view

Measuring your Hb can be beneficial for, among other things, heavy menstruation, active athletes and anyone who wants to keep track of their general health. Blood donors can also benefit from measuring their Hb.

An Hb value varies somewhat, which is completely normal. If levels are too high or too low, it may be a good idea to contact healthcare services for further examination.

Frequently asked questions

What is a normal blood count?
The reference range for hemoglobin (Hb) in women is 120 to 155 grams per liter, and in men it is approximately 130 to 170 grams per liter. Please note that the hemoglobin level in the blood varies between individuals, including healthy people. It can also vary in the same person at different times.
Does my blood count vary if I test several times on the same day?
Yes, it varies, even within just a few hours. However, the measured value should be within the reference range. If it is above or below the range, it is recommended that you seek medical care. Instruments used in healthcare also show some variation, so this is completely normal.
Why should I check my Hb?
Hb stands for hemoglobin, a protein molecule in red blood cells that plays an important role in transporting oxygen from the lungs to the body's tissues. Checking your Hb is often part of a routine health examination and can provide information about your health and possible underlying medical conditions. There are several reasons why it may be important to check your Hb. Here are a few examples:
  1. Anemia: If your Hb is low, it may indicate anemia, which means that you have fewer red blood cells than normal or that your red blood cells contain less hemoglobin than normal. Anemia can be caused by many factors, including a deficiency of iron, vitamin B12 or folate, chronic diseases or problems with the bone marrow.
  2. Blood loss: If you have lost blood due to an accident, injury or illness, your Hb may decrease. Checking your Hb can help doctors assess how severe the blood loss is and what treatment may be needed.
  3. Fitness assessment: Hb can also be used to assess your fitness and physical performance. Athletes can use Hb as an indicator of how well their bodies transport oxygen and whether there is a need to improve their fitness.
  4. Monitoring medical conditions: For people with certain medical conditions, such as chronic kidney disease, cancer and other less serious conditions, regular Hb tests are important for monitoring disease progression and the effect of treatment.
In summary, checking Hb can be useful for detecting and monitoring a number of medical conditions, including anemia, blood loss and certain chronic diseases. If you are unsure whether you need to check your Hb, you should discuss it with your doctor or another healthcare professional.
What does a low hemoglobin level mean?
A low hemoglobin level, also known as anemia, means that you have too few red blood cells in your blood and that the transport of oxygen in the blood is therefore reduced. Anemia is defined as <120 g/L for women and <130 g/L for men. The most common cause of a low blood count is iron deficiency, but anemia can occur with other conditions such as chronic intestinal diseases, stomach ulcers and bleeding from hemorrhoids. Deficiencies of vitamins B12 (cobalamin) and B9 (folic acid) can also lead to anemia. Women may have a low Hb level during pregnancy and menstruation.
What does a high hemoglobin level mean?
An elevated blood count is defined as >155 g/L for women and >170 g/L for men. You should take high hemoglobin levels seriously, as they may indicate a serious underlying medical condition. An elevated hemoglobin level may occur due to changes in fluid balance and dehydration caused by insufficient fluid intake or excessive fluid loss through sweating, diarrhea or vomiting. Once you are properly hydrated, the value should return to normal. At high altitude, where the oxygen level is lower, the body increases the production of blood cells, causing the blood count to rise. Even if you do not have an underlying condition, it is important to address a high hemoglobin level. Persistently high hemoglobin levels can lead to complications such as blood clots, heart attack and stroke.
What is the difference between Hb and iron levels?
Hb, the hemoglobin level, is often incorrectly assumed to be the same as the iron level, which is something entirely different. Hb shows the amount of iron-containing protein found in all red blood cells. To assess iron stores, it is more reliable to measure ferritin in the blood, which shows how much iron is stored and available in the body. If the body runs out of iron stores and therefore cannot produce enough Hb, the blood count (Hb) falls. This is called iron-deficiency anemia, or a low blood count due to iron deficiency. If the body runs out of iron stores (ferritin), it cannot produce enough hemoglobin (Hb), which causes the blood count to fall. This is called iron-deficiency anemia, or a low blood count due to iron deficiency.
Common error codes and solutions
Message: --- Reason: No test strip inserted, or the strip is not inserted far enough. Action: Insert the test strip firmly into the meter Message: E-1 Reason: Test strip removed during the testing process Action: Repeat the test with a new test strip and make sure the test strip remains in the meter until the test is complete. Message: E-2 Reason: Blood drop was applied to the test strip too early Action: Repeat the test with a new test strip and wait to apply the blood until you see the blood-drop symbol on the meter. Message: E-3 Reason: Used or dirty test strip Action: Make sure the test strips have not passed their expiration date. You also cannot reuse test strips that have already been used. Do not apply blood to the test strip before inserting it into the meter. The test must be performed with the strip inserted in the meter. Message: E-4 Reason: Low battery level Action: Replace the batteries and perform a new test Message: Lo Reason: The test result is lower than 45 g/L or the amount of blood is insufficient (less than 1 μL) Action: Repeat the test and use at least 10 μL of blood Message: HI Reason: The test result is higher than 256 g/L
